Given the craziness of 2020 I’m having a hard time getting in the Christmas spirit and I’m not all that sure that 2021 is going to be a helluva lot better, as least not the first few months. The “ho, ho, ho” and the “merry” modes have thus far eluded me and there aren’t that many days left to find them.
There won’t be any in-store shopping for the grandkids this year and online shopping is proving especially difficult given the fact that they’re now in their teens. And I’ll be honest, I miss walking the toy store aisles, checking out all the latest and greatest. Made me feel like a kid again and I always found neat things for them. Even came close a couple times buying a fun item or two for moi. Now that they’re older Amazon gift cards are looking pretty good.
This year the family get-together is shaping up to be a zoom affair and despite the program’s usefulness it’s just won’t be the same. We know however it’s the wisest and safest thing to do. Better to be a little melancholy than a whole lot of sick or worse and there’s always next year, or at least we hope.
Your wants, needs and appreciations change dramatically as you age and 2020 has added one more layer to it. The pandemic scares the hell out of Fay and I and we’re doing what we can to avoid being victims. Hopefully you are doing the same because WE care about YOU and yours too.
On a more positive note, if you’re looking for tekkie gifts check out Allyson Cohen’s (The Detecting Diva) recent post “How to Make a Detectorist Happy on Christmas” – a few good ideas there.
What do I want for Christmas? Just good health, a small dose of stamina and a few great detecting sites? And if any of you are flush and would like to send poor ole Dick something, a Xmas card with a Jackson or two inside would be very cool. If that’s not possible I’m also a big fan of fives, ten’s and Rex Goliath Cabernet Sauvignon.
Ho, ho, ho & happy hunting!!
______________
I know what you mean! Last year I was supposed to spend Christmas with my family in Italy, however, due to deaths and sickness with my wife’s family, we spent in in Las Vegas, it was very important for us to be there to help them. Then Covid hits a few months later, Italy gets delayed again, finally we have a window of opportunity to travel end of summer, although scared as hell to be on a plane with Covid, we masked up and sat tight. Now in Italy back in lockdown and getting stricter by the day, I get it and we obey the rules to stay safe and keep everyone else safe. We almost had this under control in Italy with only a few hundred cases a day, then the protests started here and getting to relaxed and bang, 10, 15, 20 thousand plus cases a day. I really want to see my family, it has been way too many years! Hopefully I get to see them before next Christmas. Stay Safe and wear your damn mask everyone!
I can only imagine how hard that is John, especially being so far away. Here’s hoping the vaccines will make the difference.
Yes, Covid sucks, and you hit it spot on.
What I miss the most this year is arriving at my granddaughters, opening my arms wide, and having her run up to me yelling “Oma!!!” in her girlie screech, and embracing her with a huge hug an kiss. I feel like a part of me is missing, and can’t wait for the day I really can hug her like that again.
I hope that day comes soon for you and for all of us also!
Let’s cross our fingers that 2021 will be the year when life returned to normal.
“rooster red” just saw that at the local “5 and dime” was positioned next to m/d 20-20 coincidence?..perhaps! hey! whatever it takes! ..mask up!..i’m just sayin’

I’ve heard the staff at the Rex Goliath Cabernet Sauvignon winery are now working overtime rates in anticipation of a surge in Christmas orders in the Dallas area.
I’m sure we’ve turned the corner with Covid now that vaccines are on the horizon.
Merry Christmas to you, Fay, and all the family.
Happy Holidays Bubba.
Hic!
hic! hic! happy holidays to one and all!
stay safe, and don’t let the other guy get ya!

And all the best to you and yours JT.
i’m just sayin’
I know what you mean, the wife and I are hard pressed because of not seeing the grandkids since this virus. We do a drive by and keep our distance but not often. BTW Diva’s shopping list is a terrific idea!
All the best, stay safe.
