Been Busy…

I know I have been AWOL, delinquent, missing in action and I apologize. Just tied up buying another home, or should I say house, because honestly a house is not a home until there are memories there, and given the circumstances, that will take a while.

We “officially” became home owners again on Monday, and we are now hoping to put the past two months behind us.  It’s a smaller home, one story instead of two, built in 2004.  We now need to do a few repairs, a little painting, and then furnish it with all those things we lost, which of course will never really happen. Forty nine years of marriage cannot be recreated, no matter how hard we try.

“We leave something of ourselves behind when we leave a place, we stay there, even though we go away. And there are things in us that we can find again only by going back there.” … Pascal Mercier, Night Train to Lisbon

Metal detecting? Not on my radar quite yet, despite great weather, sorry.  I do remember the anxiety, the yearning I used to get this time of the year, and wish you all the best of luck in 2016.  Just save a few old coins for this old man. It doesn’t take much…..

Hang in there with me and keep checking back. Without you this blog is meaningless….

Have started trying to locate various service companies to give repair estimates on our new home, and find it frustrating that local forums and FB pages are quick to throw our names and recommendations, but no contact info, especially company websites. A website does not a company make, but in this day and age it sure helps. This also goes for metal detecting clubs and organizations. If you do not have a website, FB page or other presence, forget about attracting new members. Aint’t going to happen.

I’ve noticed too that a lot of clubs that used to have websites have taken them down.  Not sure why, but I can only guess it has to do with lack of support and participation from members.  Unfortunately this is the nature of those involved with our hobby today, and when you add in the proliferation of metal detecting forums and Facebook pages (one individual currently oversees 150 of them), the “organized” part of our pastime is all but gone, and with it any chance it will survive long term.  JMO.
