I had plans to share an update from John Howland, but the past two days have been somewhat of a blur. Yesterday I lost my best friend and always present shadow, Barnum. Without going into a lot of details, he ran into complications after emergency surgery late Wednesday night, and rather than make him suffer we decided to say goodbye.
I cannot put into words how much I am missing him. He was one of a kind…
I will do my best to get John’s update posted soon…
Sorry for your loss – It is always tough when you lose a pet (we went through the same thing in Oct.)…people who have never had a dog or cat do not realize how they become part of the family so to speak. I am sure that you will always have many good memories of Barnum.
Thanks Don. Barnum was something special and very much part of our family.
So very sorry for your loss.
Thanks Roger…
Words could never express my sorrow. Barnum was, and always will be, a huge part of your life. Thank you for sharing him with us so that we could all experience his life as well. He will be greatly and deeply missed.
Thank you Lisa…
Dick, I feel for you. Hugs and prayers. I lost both of my dogs in 2013(brothers who were 16 years old) – from cancer and was such a empty void for quite a few months. Now I can look at pictures and the great memories that my family has of them without shedding too many tears.
Linda, thank you…
Pets are people too. Sorry for your loss, I have been in the same shoes and it is not pleasant But life goes on and it will get better, just takes time.
They are indeed people. Thanks Roy…
When we have companions for that long it is like losing a child, Prayers and strength my friend!
Thanks Ron. Enjoyed chatting with you this morning.
I’m so sorry to hear of Barnum’s passing. Our constant friends are never forgotten and live always in our hearts.
Thanks John….
Sorry for your loss. Pets are so much a part of the family. Been there, done that.

Appreciate it Mike….
I’m so sorry for your loss. Our 4 legged family members often fill the our hearts empty spots, and when they leave us after years of unconditional love the emptiness left can be debilitating. My best wishes to you and your family in this time of loss.

It’s never an easy thing no matter when these things happen. You did the right thing by letting him go and enjoying the time that he spent with you and your family.
Thank you all for your kind words…I appreciate it.
Just got home, not feeling well, and reading this put’s things in perspective. I really feel for you Dick. You’re going to miss your buddy a lot. I know that. I’ll be thinking about you. Bob Buzzard
Bob, thanks and you are entitled to not feel well, given all you have been through. Merry Christmas!
So sorry to hear of your loss Dick. Its easy to see Barnum enjoyed the best life possible with you. At the end you responded appropriately and with love.
Best wishes to you and your family.
Sorry for your loss Dick, my condolences.
I’m so sorry for your loss of a best friend. It hits you as a loss of a close relative in your family. There’s no words that really help , I know I went through this a few months ago. But a new best friend showed up at my house and nothing more than a puppy that was lost. After a week of looking for the owners I was able to find them.
The good news is that they took pity on me as they saw that the puppy and I had bonded. Something I did not think would happen, but it did an now I have a new friend that goes every where that I go ! I feel much better now and I have a friend to help me dig while out detecting.
